Abstract

This research was conducted using mind mapping to increase the students’ reading comprehension. The research consisted of two research questions. The first question is that if mind mapping can increase the students’ reading comprehension. The second one deals with the implementation of mind mapping to increase the students’ reading comprehension. This research was designed in Classroom Action Research which consisted of two cycles; cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subject of this research was 32 students of 7C class of MTs N Salatiga. The data which were collected were qualitative data and supported by quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained through observation and documentation. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was collected from the test. The researcher used SPSS 20.00 for analyzing the data. From the data that was found, the researcher concludes that using mind mapping could increase the students’ reading comprehension from cycle I and cycle II. The improvement was showed in each cycle which presented in pre-test and post-test. The result of the t-test of the cycle II was 5,981 which was higher than the t-table: 1,696 with N-1. The passing grade of the English lesson was 75 and the success indicator was 80%. The outcome of the post-test of the cycle II was 90,62% of the entire students. The success indicator was achieved, so the researcher stopped the research. Thus, it was required to help the students to comprehend the material. From the result, the researcher concluded that the implementation of mind mapping proved that it could improve significantly the students’ reading comprehension at seventh grade students of MTs N Salatiga.
