Keywords: passive voice, grammatical error The objectives of the research were to find out the errors made by the students in using passive voice and to find out the causes of errors in using passive voice at the ninth grade students of MTS Nurul Islam Musuk in the academic year of 2019/2020. The methodology of the research was descriptive qualitative. The techniques of data collection in the research were test and documentation. The source of the data in the research was the ninth grade students of MTS Nurul Islam Musuk in the academic year of 2019/2020. The sample of the data was 22 students at the IX B class. The researcher found that there were 851 errors in using passive voice. The errors made by the students were misformation in strategy taxonomy. The classification of the errors was subject-object, be, verb 3, by phrase, singular – plural, capitalization, spelling, omission, and addition. The highest until the lowest total numbers and the percentage of the errors were be (178 errors from 851 total of errors or 21%), omission (152 errors from 851 total of errors or18%), by phrase (132 errors from 851 total of errors or 16%), subject-object (128 errors from 851 total of errors or 15%), verb 3 (125 errors from 851 total of errors or 14%), addition (70 errors from 851 total of errors or 8%), capitalization (41 errors from 851 total of errors or 5%). Spelling (17 errors from 851 total of errors or 2%), and singular – plural: 8 errors from 851 total of errors or 1%).
