The Effect of Using PORPE Method to Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension (A Pre-Experimental Research at the Eleventh Grade Students’ of SMA N 1 Bringin in the Academic Year 2019/2020). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Nur Muthmainnah, M.Pd. The objectives of the research are (1) To know the difference between students’ reading comprehension before and after using PORPE method, (2) To find out the effectiveness of PORPE method to improve reading comprehension. The method of the research was quantitative research especially which used pre-experimental design. The data were collected using test. There were two tests that was used in the research, they are pre-test and post-test. The test consisted of 20 multiple choice questions of reading comprehension. The subject of this research was XI MIPA 3 of SMAN 1 Bringin. It involved 28 members. The data was analyzed using t-test formula using Microsoft Excel 2010. The results of the data analysis show that there is significant difference between the mean scores of pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test before the treatment is 57,3 and the mean score of post-test after treatment is 71,25. Then, the result of t-test with the level of significance (? = 0.05) and df = 27 then the value of the table = 1,703. Thus, the value of t-test is higher than the variable (7,73 > 1,703). It can be concluded that, the strategy of PORPE method is effective to improve reading comprehension at XI MIPA 3 students of SMA N 1 Bringin in the academic year 2019/2020.
